Imagine if Yugoslavia were still in existence, and had sent a squad for this World Cup.... a combined team of Croatia + Serbia + Slovenia + Montenegro + Macedonia + Bosnia & Herzegovina! Now that would ve been some squad, maybe it could ve looked something like this:
Yugoslavia Squad 2010
GK: Handanovic, Pletikosa, Stojkovic
Def: Corluka, Vidic, Kolarov, Ivanovic, Lukovic, Rukavina, Simunic
Mid: Modric, Srna, Kranjcar, Stankovic, Krasic, Pjanic, Misimovic
Str: Olic, Jovanovic, Dzeko, Pandev, Jovetic, Vucinic
Potential Starting XI:
Handanovic
Rukavina - Vidic - Ivanovic - Kolarov
Srna - Stankovic
Jovetic - Modric - Vucinic
Dzeko
Rukavina - Vidic - Ivanovic - Kolarov
Srna - Stankovic
Jovetic - Modric - Vucinic
Dzeko
And there are so many other quality players I've had to leave out... Yugoslavia would ve been a top football nation by now, perhaps with a World Cup or two under their belt. The unified Czechoslovakia or USSR would ve been quite strong too, but not as much as the Yugoslavs.... what it could ve been!! Anyways, enough musings from a parallel universe for a day...
