Serie A: New Kids on the Block!

By Gautam Sharma

The young revelations of Serie A so far... Five weeks in the new season, here is a list of youngsters to watch out for... these new kids are already starting to impress with their promise:

Ilicic, 22 (Palermo): Came out of the blue, no one expected such instant stardom. A last minute impluse purchase by Palermo, and what a purchase he is turning out to be! Tall (6'3), strong, excellent work rate, and quite skillful in attack. Has scored two goals already, not a bad haul for a young midfielder.

Schelotto, 21 (Cesena): A young winger whose amazing runs are terrorizing all Serie A defences. He has all the attributes required to succeed in the modern game, his success seems imminent.

Ljajic, 18 (Fiorentina): The kid who is doing all the creative work at Florence in the absence of Jovetic & Mutu, and is starting to grow into the role remarkably well considering his young age. Can dribble like hell, and is tricky & inventive. Manchester United must be already regreting their decision to not exercise their option to buy this Serbian kid.

Coutinho, 18 (Inter): Unlike the others on this list, this kid is not even a regular for his team. But a few sub appreances have shown enough to confirm his talent. Needs to build some muscle, and he will become a regular for the Nerazzurri in the future.

Viviano, 24 (Bologna): Some amazing saves by this young keeper in his debut Serie A season for Bologna, & a confident debut for the Azzurri. A good month in the life of youngish (24 is young for keepers!) Viviano.

This above list does not included young players like Pastore, Pato, Jovetic, Hamsik, Santon, etc who have already shown their promise in previous seasons.
